LEARNING AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH PLAY AND SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT

 

Our group goals include:

     * helping to build relationships with other children

     * expanding play, including sensory, cooperative, and imaginative play

     * increasing focus and attention in a group setting

     * creating opportunities to solve problems, conflcts, and think

     * building self-confidence and independence

     * increasing communication (expressive, receptive, and social)

     * exploring real-life emotional themes as they occur (e.g. how to work

        out sharing a toy, how to read a friend's face when his or her feelings

        are hurt, etc.)

 

We offer:

* a low adult to child ratio (2:1) 

* child-initiated and adult-led activities tailored to the children's individual interests with a focus on initiation

* a balance of open-ended and structured activities tailored to the children's individual interests with a focus on initiation and helping children navigate realistic play situations

* meaningful social and learning opportunities

* weekly feedback to families that includes photos of the days events as well as a brief summary individualized for each child

Please note that all group facilitators have specialzed training in the DIR/Floortime Model and support a developmental approach to intervention. Team members include a special educator, occupational therapist, and teaching assitant. 

Additional groups and facilitated play sessions will be developed based on interest.
